The Brazilian Forum for the Right of Access to Public Information: 1) Promotes and encourages the debate about the right of access to public information in Brazil –and similar themes, such as changes in the public archive law. 2) Has no partisan or political ties and it is non-profitable. 3) Stands for a bill to assure and make easy the access to public records in Brazil, such as documents produced by the Three Republican Powers and archives of estates and cities. 4) Develops advertisement campaigns about the need of a access of public information law in Brazil. 5) Argues that governments, at all levels, should have the concern of properly file any public record in a way it would be easy to access the document in the future, and they should as well maintain permanent systems to manage and preserve those archives. This also includes the unification of the criterion to file documents in notaries and in public offices that keep track of mergers records. 6) Develops initiatives of training, gathering and disseminating information kept by the State and about the State. The decision to create the Brazilian Forum for the Right of Access to Public Information was taken on Sept.30th, 2003, in Brasilia, at the end of the International Seminar on the Right of Access to Public Information, organized by Abraji (Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism). The official launching happened in Brasilia on Nov.25th, 2004, at the Brazilian Lawyer Board office. |
